Several Players Earn UAA Accolades
Several of NYU’s men’s basketball players received honors from the University Athletic Association for their performances during the 2003-04 season.
Freshman Jason Boone, who leads the UAA in field goal percentage (.617), and leads the Violets in rebounding (7.2 rpg) and blocks (43), was named UAA Rookie of the Year. The 6’6” native of Sugar Loaf, New York, who is averaging 10.3 ppg, was also named Honorable Mention All-UAA.
Junior Jeff Gilkerson, who currently leads the Violets with 14.2 ppg and is second in rebounding (6.8 rpg) and field goal percentage (.527), was named Second Team All-UAA for the second consecutive season.
Sophomore James Janeczek and freshman Michael DeCorso also received Honorable Mention All-UAA accolades.
Janeczek, who was selected UAA Co-Rookie of the Year as a freshman, leads the Violets and the UAA with 64 three-point field goals. He is also second on the team in scoring (12.9 ppg). DeCorso, who is scoring 9.6 ppg, leads the Violets and is third in the UAA with a .464 three-point field goal percentage.
The Violets, who tied for third place in the UAA with an 8-6 record and have posted an overall mark of 19-6, have recorded their most wins since the 1996-97 season. The Violets have earned the #3 seed in the ECAC Division III Metro Championship Tournament.
